Illuminated Manuscript Workshop

A one-day workshop at St James Church Aslackby

To highlight the skill involved in creating just a single illuminated letter, we were pleased to arrange a one-day workshop with the illuminated manuscript artist and curator Toni Watts.

A group of 20 of us congregated in St James Church Aslackby to get hands on with paint and leaf. The results were mixed, though from our aptitude rather than Toni’s teaching, but it did serve to show what mastercraftsmen existed during the medieval period, who, without the facilities of the modern day, could create such fabulous and intricate work.
