Aveland Archive Afternoons
Bringing Architectural and Village History to Life
The Aveland History Group have been delighted to be a part of this National Lottery Heritage Funded project, which has seen a furore of activity centred around St James the Great Church in Aslackby over the past 2 years.
So much has happened to try to encapsulate here, but suffice it to say, the church roof has been repaired, history and architecture in the church itself has been explored in some original and innovative ways by all members of the local community young and old, and the inception of a digital archive has started what will be the long process of retaining and recording our history for posterity.
We could not have done this without the help of numerous volunteers, many of whom are celebrated by the recent award the church has gained at the National Churches Award – and yes, we were the best!
But all good things come to an end, and the funded project will finish at the end of the year! Fear not though. The work goes on.
In 2025 we will be running monthly get togethers. Armed with our fancy new scanning equipment purchased with money from the grant, the aim is to help each other to digitise and upload information to the archive, or just to have a chin wag about our fabulous local history.
Keep a look out for dates, and come and join us in our wonderful church.
