Billingborough and Horbling Cubs Local History Badge
Sharing our Local History with the younger generation.
We were very excited to be asked to present some aspects of our local history to the Billingborough and Horbling Cubs. Not quite as excited as a pack of cubs apparently!
In a bid to get the children to think about some of the landmarks in the area that they would come across every day, we provided cards with details of buildings and places then asked them to think about when certain events would happen.
With a washing line of dates, ranging from 800 BCE to the present day, 2 teams battled it out to see who could guess the most accurately. It was an interesting result, not least their thinking that Folkingham Prison was around in the 1200’s but that the Knights Templar were still roaming the area in the 1800’s!
Out of the 14 questions, one team guessed 8 correctly, the winners 9. What was interesting though was how many of them were engaged with our local landmarks, and were extremely knowledgeable about, for instance, the founder and benefactor of their school.
To see if you can outwit the cubs – try the quiz yourself.
