A wonderful weekend of all things Georgian

Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st May 2023

Thanks to the gods of weather, a wonderful weekend of all things Georgian happened in the charming village of Folkingham in May. The festival had something for everyone, and the reviews were extremely complimentary.

The Aveland History Group wishes to thank the Village of Folkingham for the reception they gave the festival and the team of locals who gave their time to help organise and steward the event and showcase their village to the visitors.

Thanks must also go to South Kesteven District Council and their generous grant as well as the local businesses who gave materials or sponsored activities.

The Programme of Events, and a full schedule it was too!

Stop Press Stop Press

We are pleased to announce that the Georgian Festival we had planned for September 2022 has now been rescheduled to Spring 2023. The Aveland History Group has been overwhelmed by the support we have recieved from, not only our generous sponsor, but by participants and organisers alike. So much so, that we are able to bring to you the fantastic range of entertainers, enactors, players, musicians, speakers and educationalists we had originally sourced, so for your delectation, let the party go on!

A FEW OF THE EXHIBITORS TAKING PART IN OUR EVENT

THE 1815 COLDSTREAM GUARDS

A living history camp, with daily displays showing off uniform and equipment. See the equipment up close and personal with rifle loading and firing including a timed shoot, followed by childrens drill sessions where parents are able to take their last photograph of their children, before they are whisked off to fight Napoleon.

The Mannered Mob

The Mannered Mob are a society of re-enactors specialising in the portrayal of civilian life between the years 1730 and 1760 representing all levels of society from high to low.

Our members are men and women of all ages with wide-ranging interests and expertise. Together we portray a variety of period crafts, trades, skills and professions, from the handicrafts of genteel ladies to the work of servants and labourers, but most of all we love to share our enthusiasm for all things 18th Century.

Registered re-enactment providers to the National Trust, our members come from all parts of the country and we undertake events nationwide.

We pride ourselves on our ability to deliver high-quality living history events, tailored to the requirements of each sponsor. We portray men and women in all stations of 18th Century life, from the wealthy gentry to the roadside vagabond, demonstrating many of the smaller details of everyday living, from the clothes people wore to the essential matters of work and play.

About Regency ReJigged

We are a group of dancers based in the North West of England. We perform dances popular from the 17th to early 19th centuries in Regency style costume, accompanied by our musicians, the Regency Players, playing acoustic instruments appropriate to the period.

Our dances are described by Jane Austen as the “good old English country dances” and can be seen in films such as Pride and Prejudice. She herself once said “to be fond of dancing is a certain step towards falling in love!” At that time dancing was an integral part of social life – indeed accomplished dancing was linked with high achievement, grace, and harmonious thinking!

The Time Machine

Irene the Inventor is lost in space and her time machine is ticking her off. Every second counts, so can you help her in her hour of need? But watch out, once she clocks you, she will whisk you off to a Victorian school room, a Roman invasion and even take you as far back as the time of the dinosaurs. So, hold onto your pants because this is an adventure not to be missed

Brand new family theatre full of music, zany characters, and lots of interaction.

The Admirable Admirals

Hoist the flag and shout Aye-aye! The Admirable Admirals are Rhubarb Theatre’s latest hilarious walk-about characters and they’ll be dropping anchor at our Georgian Festival in Folkingham

Nelly, Bones and Fred are here to battle flying fish, each other and any unsuspecting passers-by with their water pistols and salty sea-dog ways

So hold onto your fancy hats, cause there’s gallons of water and a huge splash of hilarity heading into port near you!
