Local History Day

On Saturday 8th February 2020, in a bid to gauge the appetite for the formation of a local history group we held a local history day in the village hall in Aslackby. The day had the full support of Heritage Lincolnshire who came out with a variety of activities for adults and children alike, and we had local history experts exhibiting their fantastic collections, The Springwells Heritage Group based in Billingborough, Folkingham Past and Present, Pickworth Local History Group, and Brian Lawrance who has an extensive collection of local history memorabilia from Morton, Hanthorpe and around. The day was a complete success, over 100 people attended and the lecture that was held in the evening had over 70 people fascinated by Jim Snee and his talk on the Aveland Wapentakes ancient past.

It was the start of something great!

Unfortunately, the timing was impeccable.

Within 2 weeks we were submerged into lockdown as the present day plague struck, but not to be knocked back the enthusiasm generated that day meant we had to push on, and the Aveland History Group came into being.

The rest they say is history!

Feedback…
