Tour of Dowsby House

A Guided Tour of one of the oldest Manor Houses in our Area – April 2024

In April 2024 Members of the Aveland History Group were given the opportunity to visit the fascinating DOWSBY HALL for a “through the keyhole look” into Jacobean Architecture and the must have features designed into an early 17th century home. One of our areas most historic residences and still a private home, only opened to the public by appointment.

Two groups were given a wonderful welcome to what must be one of the counties hidden gems. A walk around the grounds gave a fascinating insight into the alterations the house and garden has sustained over the years, and the owner’s dedication to restoring and conserving this wonderful listed building.

A tour of the inside didn’t disappoint. The rooms from cellar to attic are a mix of styles, but all contain some fabulous historic features.

A wonderful tour finished off with tea and coffee in the kitchen.
